Andrea
Centazzo - Musical Renaissance Man
|
|
Over
the past thirty years, Italian/American composer/percussionist/multimedia
artist Andrea Centazzo has created an amazing body of work, spanning a
wide range of musical styles. Starting in the 1970s, he helped instigate
the free jazz movement in both Europe and America. In the 1980s, he combined
his compositions with both ethnic and environmental sounds, anticipating
what would become new age music. He also produced large scale ensemble
works, starting with the formation of his Mitteleuropa Orchestra in the
early 1980s, going on to write and produce operas, symphonies, and music
for films. Centazzo has traveled the globe, incorporating various ethnic
musics into his own, and in the 1990s he combined video and music into
cutting edge multi-media performances, creating a signature musical language
easily identified as his own. |

ICTUS
Records was founded in 1976 by Andrea Centazzo and Carla Lugli, establishing
immediately one of the most interesting collection of new musics on the
market for more than 10 years to come. Now ICTUS is back with the Andrea
Centazzo Complete Music Archives in a special endeavor to present a broad
selection spanning the 30-plus years of Andrea Centazzo's artistic career. |
| I
have not been aware of Andrea Centazzo or his music for much of his 30 years
career, but it only takes a moment to recognize genius when you are fortunate
to finally meet it. Maestro Centazzo as a musician and as a person is never black and white; rather, he is kaleidoscope of distinctive colors: bright and bold in presentation; complex, introspective, muted hues in realization. Yet his work is very specific. Even in his early improvisation avant garde pieces there are no accidents - only occurrences of being wholly present with the music. Gifted in communication, Maestro Centazzo speaks many languages, but when he communicates with music, the world's spirits and energies emerge through him. Beauty, pain, nature, fear, love are all presented eloquently, clearly and completely accessible. Maestro Centazzo's success is a result not solely of talent but the marriage resulting from diligent expertise guided by the certainty of skill and the perseverance to overcome any obstacle. |
